Networks
Wired networks
Wired networks generally give a better performance than wireless networks. This is due to less interference, than a wireless network would usually encounter, with wired networks generally providing a more stable network. RSC Security therefore recommends installing a wired network, for any critical network infrastructure. This will avoid network dropout’s that are typical found with wireless networks.
Wired networks are usually more secure because the network is only accessible if a physical cable is connected to it. A wireless networks could be open to the general public or potential hackers.
Wireless Networks
Wireless networks are usually inferior to wired networks, due to several factors such as drop out’s if the signal range fluctuates, reduced bandwidth when with several connected devices and a building’s features such as metalwork. A wireless network is less secure than a wired network but has the tremendous advantage of not requiring a physically wired connections.
A mobile network device can easily join a wireless network, providing they have the correct logon credentials.
Wired Network Infrastructure
The benefits of having a wired network massively outweighs a wireless network, with many companies nowadays using a mixed network, that incorporates a provision for both wired and wireless devices to fully maximise business productivity and performance. Modern devices, such as smartphones and some of the latest laptops, do not have the ability to connect to a wired network, so sometimes a wireless connection is the only possible solution.
RSC Security Solutions Ltd always recommends using wired network infrastructure, wherever possible.
